Maryland New Directions (MND) began its organizational life in 1973 as “New Directions for Women,” helping “displaced homemakers” transition to paid employment. Throughout the 70s and early 80s, MND gained regional and national recognition for supporting women as they broke down barriers and achieved lasting success in the workforce. While a lot has changed in 46 years, we remain strong in our belief that quality employment represents the most effective means for individuals and families to build a brighter future. Today MND serves all disadvantaged job seekers in Baltimore, male and female, aged 18 – 60, providing specialized career training and individualized services tailored to the unique needs of every client we serve.
MND currently offers three intensive job training programs including our award winning Career Focus training program, the industry specific Maritime Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Training Program and Commercial Transportation Careers Training Program, along with a variety of accessible, on-demand services including One-On-One Job Coaching, Job Search and Application Support, Resume Review, Computer Literacy Courses, and a variety of additional services. MND additionally provides several opportunities for clients to earn stackable, industry recognized skill certifications and credentials designed to offer job seekers a competitive advantage in the job market and allow incumbent workers the opportunity to advance their careers and increase their earning potential that include Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP) Certification, TWIC cards, Warehouse Specialist Training (WST) and OSHA-10 Certification, Forklift Certification, Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) Certification and CDL-B License Permit.
MND’s programs are designed to directly impact unemployment, underemployment, and poverty in Baltimore, providing LMI and disadvantaged job seekers with the skills, tools, and support they need to secure high quality employment opportunities, increase their earning potential, and achieve financial stability through long term employment. At the same time, MND’s also address a critical need within our local economy, providing local employers and industries with the skilled and motivated workers they need to grow and thrive.
